example – gender bias – male kindergarten teacher
Bias is how our mind works.
Age, belief, disability, ethnicity, gender, political
Bias exists in the world. I am, everyone is biased. Biblical response… We must make a choice.
Luke 6:35-38 (ESV) 35 But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil. 36 Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful. 37 “Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven; 38 give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”
Antidote: Play devils advocate with yourself. Take someone else’s perspective. Consciously question my assumptions all the time. Ask “why might I be wrong” write down 5 reasons why I might be wrong.
Get down, walk around, write it down, pray for a changed heart.
Equality by design… Equality by effort… Equality by choice… Justice by God’s plan.
We need to be careful about what our kids see, read, watch, role models – this transforms belief and world view. This can either open doors, paths for possible future or it restricts and boxes in future possibilities.
Examples: sexuality, materialism, “it is all for me”, “I am entitled to”, “I want”, “I need” VS. ” I am here with a divine purpose”, ” I am here to serve”, “I am here to reveal God’s glory”, “I am here to love”, “I am here to work as the hands of God”.
